Quetiapine fumaraat is een nieuw fenothiazine -antipsychotisch medicijn dat verschillende neuroticisme -receptoren in de hersenen kan blokkeren [1,2]. Het mechanisme werkt voornamelijk door het blokkeren van de D1, D2, 5- hydroxytryptamine 2 (5- ht2), 5- hydroxytryptamine 1a (5- ht1a) en andere receptoren van centrale dopamine (da). De bindingsverhouding tot 5- HT/DA -receptoren is 2, wat de hoogste is bij atypische antipsychotische geneesmiddelen.
